Chromium is a very toxic heavy metal, easy to enter the body cells, liver, kidney and other internal organs and DNA damage, accumulation in the human body with carcinogenicity, and may induce gene mutation. The main ways of chromium poisoning are inhalation and ingestion, generally no special protection is needed, but it is necessary to prevent the hazards of fumes and dust.
Hexavalent chromium is widely used in plating post-treatment, color coating pretreatment and color coating primer due to its good corrosion resistance and self-repair function.
Hexavalent chromium is a restricted substance in the EU ROHS Directive, and China banned the use of hexavalent chromium in household appliances and automotive industry as early as 2006. national standard GB30981-2020 "Limit of Hazardous Substances in Industrial Protective Coatings", which started to be enforced on January 1, 2022, also restricts the use of hexavalent chromium.
Therefore, in the next period of time, various galvanized and color coated sheet manufacturers will gradually phase out passivation solutions and coatings containing chromium. The implementation of chromium-free switching, which is an inevitable trend.
